For the past 2 months I have currently been taking 25 mg of atenolol for anxiety attacks.
and heart palpitations. I have had several test done including an ekg, echocardiogram,24 hour holter monitor, 30 event monitor and blood tests. All came back normal. I would like to discontinue the atenolol becasue I am currently taking 20
mg of Lexapro which seem to be controlling the anxiety. Can I stop taking the atenolol
abruptly or do I have to wean myself off? Thank you for the advice

Hello,

Do not stop taking atenolol without talking to your doctor. Suddenly stopping atenolol may cause chest pain, heart attack, or irregular heartbeat. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
