Just want to know what can be making my feet numb

Sent to Health Experts October 25 08:47 PM

For 2 years now, I have had numb feet. I have had 2 MRI's and there is some arthritis in my back.   The doctor is going to do another MRI to check to see if anything has changed. They can't see to find out what is wrong because I have no pain but I do have numbeness in parts of my middle back, buttocks area down the back of my legs and especially in my feet. In the winter time, it is hard to wear shoes.   I have had test to see if I have nerve damage in my feet and it came out normal. The doctor took 8 vials of blood the other day to check for any kind of diseases that might affect my feet. The doctor also wants me to take a glucose tolerance test to check for diabeties because that can cause numbness in feet. But I just get tired of finding no answers. Can you think of anything that they could be missing that would help me find some answers. Now that winter is here, my feet feel more numb and it gets hard to walk and keep my balance.

Reply to Gloria K's Post: I am 46. I am on Adderall for ADHD, Prozac for the side effects of Adderall, Xanax for anxiety (recent divorce after 25 years and also raising a 7 year old autistic grandson who I adopted as my son). No they tell me I have arthritis in my back but no disc problems. I do have high blood pressure sometimes. It can be anywhere from 160/100 with a pulse rate at 105 and can be 138/80 with a pulse rate at 90. The doctor does have me scheduled for a spinal tap. But never been checked for my spine. Hope this helps. I did have a early hysterectomy when I was 22. I had a bad wreck where I turned my car over twice when I was 21. I use to have a furniture business with my exe husband for 10 years and lifted heavy furniture.

Reply to Gloria K's Post: I know my blood was tested for levels of B12 but not sure about the other. I know the nurologist took 8 vials of blood the other day. She is checking for all kinds of diseases but not sure if they include the abnormal levels of calcium, potassium, or sodium.
No I am not on any medication for my blood pressure. I have tried in the past but had reactions to the medicines. It has been normal lately until I went the other day to the nurologist and it could have been stress and also stress of going to the doctor.
As far as sciatica, not sure what that is so I must have not had it.
They are going to do a 3 hours glucose tolerance test for diabeties next week. I was borderline years ago from hypoglocemia to borderline diabetic. My father is 69 and just developed diateties. He got his down with diet and no sugars.

Reply to Gloria K's Post: Hmmm! I didn't have the numbness in my feet until I moved to Indiana 2 years ago. I was already on Xanax for about 1 month. I was on Paxil before the Prozac but the doctor thought the Paxil was making me more anxious. So he put me on Prozac which I could tell a big difference. But I can't remember if my numbness was before that or after that. Good question!

You may be experiencing some numbness from the medication you are on. I'd ask your doctor about this, and tell him/her that you noticed this feeling right about when you started taking the Xanax/Prozac. Many people react very differently to many different drugs. What some people feel is not always what would be called a "textbook" side effect. If your blood tests come back normal, that is normal calcium, potassium, sodium, and B12 levels, and if your glucose test comes back normal, and all other tests are fine, ask your doctor about this- you may even need a second opinion! If you do have diabetes, you may have what is called diabetic neuropathy- or a numbness/tingling in the lower legs and feet. If all tests are normal, please consider the meds- maybe your doctor can put you on something that works better for you. But please follow up with your doctor, since he/she has your complete medical history. I hope I have been able to help you tonight. I know I asked a lot of questions. If you have anymore questions for me, please feel free to ask! Otherwise, if I have helped you and answered your question, please hit the accept button. Thanks, Gloria.
