Dear SB,

Okay, so actually there are two issues here.

1) You have difficulty breathing. This is very common. Usually the causes after CABG are a) they cracked open your ribs, and this takes a while to heal and b) there is often residual blood and fluid in the chest cavity that takes some time for the body to reabsorb. With this being said, one would expect that by 5 weeks out, you would be feeling better, not the same. I recommend you get a chest xray to see how it compares to your discharge xray.

2) Trouble urinating. This may be related to your medication or may be completely unrelated to your heart or medicines. If you are on a diuretic like Lasix, HCTZ or Aldactone, you may be dehydrated and thus, making less urine. If you cannot get the flow started, then this is a prostate problem, though it could be related to medicines like beta blockers, that we give to heart patients. The bottom line here is that I think you need blood work to check your kidney function (to look for dehydration or kidney failure) as well as a urinalysis to look for evidence of infection or stones.
