Hi, I am a 25 year old female and in January of this year I started having episodes of sinus tachycardia... My heart rate was 160+, has gotten as high as 224... My resting HR is between 120 and 130... I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome in June but not exactly sure as that is correct... Most of the time my blood pressure is normal every once in a while it will drop... I have noticed though that I seem to blackout more often... The blackouts arent seriously bad as I come right back within a couple of seconds but I'm afraid one day it will start happening for longer periods of time and I may be driving or doing something that could hurt me... I have had a cat scan through the ER and all he said was you have a brain... I'm wondering if maybe I should see about getting an EEG, or MRI of my brain would that find out something? Or does it look like that may just be a part of my fast heart rate?

Hi, Customer (name blocked for privacy), the symptoms that you are experiencing can be definetely caused by the tachycardia that you have .

When your heart beats so fast ,there are organs that can not receive adequate blood flow ,like the brain . When your brain does not receive adequate blood ,you experience the blackouts .

Could you tell me if your doctor has prescribed you any type of medication ?

Just so ya know what's going on... Right now I am going through a POTS research program... I was on medication for a month as it was part of the study... I'm almost positive it was Inderal 80mgs - it slowed my resting HR(while laying down for sevearl minutes) down to the 70s and 80s but when I stood up for the two hour stand test it worked it's way up to 130 to 140ish... FYI- my heart is too small...

As of right now I am not on any medication because part of the study is to see if a prescribed exercise program will make my heart bigger... That will last for 3 months... I just feel as things are getting worse... I dont know if I should find another doctor that specializes in my condition and try to get on medication to take care of me right away or if the blackouts are somewhat normal and hope that this study is going to do the best for me...

BTW- they want me to increase my salt intake to 7000mgs a day and increase it weekly up to 10,000mgs by the end of the month... If that gives you any info on what they think...
