Father in Emergency room with heart problem
Sent to Health Experts December 12 11:06 PM

Hello, thank you for answering my question. My 67-year-old dad was has been sick for a few days with what seemed like the flu. General crummy feeling combined with being slightly disoriented. Today, he went to the clinic, which informed him that they thought the top of his heart was beating slower then the bottom of his heart...which does not make sense to me. He was sent to the emergency room where they told him that this might be the onset of a heart attack or a blood clot in his heart. They gave him something called Channel Blockers. They are sending him home and told him to see a cardiologist tomorrow. Based on this description, do you have any idea what is going on? I know that I did not provide you with a lot of information, but I am extremely confused.

Greetings.

Your father must have been give drugs which are called as calcium channel blockers. They have various indication for multiple heart and vascular disorders.

There are conditions called as arrhythmias. Read about them here.

The top part of the heart is composed of atriums while lower portion is made of ventricles. The heart rhythm travels from atrium to ventricles. In some arrhythmia disorders, these rhythm may not travel properly and atriums and ventricles may not work or contract in synchronization. I think your father's physician wanted to explain this thing to you.

Hope this helps. Please feel free, if you have further questions.
