While hemorrhoids in children are usually harmless, regarding commonsense measures such as increasing fluid and fiber intake in order to make the stool softer and easier to pass.
However, according to this reference, hemorrhoids in a child can be a sign of an underlying circulatory problem called portal hypertension.
This being the case, I recommend that you bring this to the attention of your son's pediatrician.
