I have a constant rectal itch. I use balneol and am in a constant state of irritation. 2 doctors saw me after i had been scratching so I was inflamed and they attributed it to that but it never ends. My PCP suggested I use a zinc cream alternately with anusol 2.5% and i do get some relief but it keeps returning. Might I have a parasite?

Greetings.

Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm) is the most common intestinal parasite. Despite primarily living in the gut, the most common chief complaint is anal itching (pruritus). Albendazole is the drug used for its treatment.

Other causes are medications, poor hygeine, chemical irritants, food irritants, hemorrhoids, skin infection, over use of laxatives etc.

Read here detailed information on anal itching.

Hope this helps. Please feel free, if you have further questions to ask.
