Blood in Toilet Bowel and on Paper after a hard Stool

Sent to Health Experts December 06 10:54 AM

This morning I was very constipated, and passed a very hard stool (like little rabbit pellets). While wiping I noticed bright red blood in the bowel, and on the Paper after wiping. Also have a burning sensation in and around my Anus. Some background I had a Lower GI 6 Months ago for some narrowing stools, and the study came back totally normal.

Hello,

No, I had alittle spotting, which has stopped, and have had another bowel movement since the first posting, which did not contain any signs of blood or discolored. However, it did burn when it was coming out :(.

My Stool color is light to medium brown, and was hard to start, but then softened to a loose consistency at the end. I have never been diagnosed with Hemmorhoids before. Do they usually form on the outside or the inside of the Rectum?

Thanks.

Hello again,

Good, I'm glad the bleeding has stopped.

Hemorhoids can be internal or external. Hemorrhoids are either inside the anus-internal-or under the skin around the anus-external. The term hemorrhoids refers to a condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed.

Hemorrhoids may result from straining to move stool. Other contributing factors include , aging, chronic constipation or diarrhea, and anal intercourse.

Although many people have hemorrhoids, not all experience symptoms. The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids is bright red blood covering the stool, on toilet paper, or in the toilet bowl.

You can also have an anal fissure (like a cut or tear) as a result of passing the hard stool.

A thorough evaluation and proper diagnosis by the doctor is important any time bleeding from the rectum or blood in the stool occurs. Bleeding may also be a symptom of other digestive diseases, including colorectal cancer. Being that you were medically evaluated, you can call the doctor and discuss this with him.

The doctor will examine the anus and rectum to look for swollen blood vessels that indicate hemorrhoids and will also perform a digital rectal exam with a gloved, lubricated finger to feel for abnormalities.

You should increase fiber in your diet and drink at least 6 glasses of water a day. The goal is to relieve the constipation and keep the stools soft since you did have the prior problem as well

.Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In addition, doctors may suggest a bulk stool softener or a fiber supplement such as psyllium (Metamucil) or methylcellulose (Citrucel).

Treatment for hemorhoids is aimed at relieving symptoms.

tub baths several times a day in plain, warm water for about 10 minutes

Application of a hemorrhoidal cream (preparation H) or suppository to the affected area for a limited time

Thank you for a very thorough answer. I have called my Gastro Doctor, and will hopefully speak to him this afternoon. I will followup anyway, just to be sure. Thank you again.
