Question

I''m a 52 yr old woman with a hernia in my groin area.

Sent to Health Experts March 02 1:59 a.m.

I''m a 52 yr old woman with a hernia in my groin area. My question is can pain and swelling from this go down the inside of my upper thigh? The swelling and pain is right below the groin area in my upper thigh. Where the thigh and the groin I guess connect.

Optional Information:
Female, Age: 52, Pennsylvania

Already Tried:
heat. I have fybromyalgia and sometimes I can't tell if the pain is that or the hernia. But it really feels like the hernia. The longer I stand it feels like a swell on the inside of my upper thigh. Right below the groin area.I really don't quite understand what a hernia is. I had one though back in 89 or 90 and it was an inguenal hernia. I looked like I was 7 or 8 months pregnant. It was so painful. I really don't know what to do. I have had 5 or 6 surgeries through the same incision lower abdomen and the surgeon recommended to wait because of all the surgery I had in that area. What do you think?

Hello,
I want to get some more detail information about your problem

When do you feel the pain ? Is it related to any position of the hernia?

Whether your hernia remains there or it goes back when you lie down?

Waiting for the information.

Thank you.

Actually I feel pain 99% of the time. I take advil to help control it. It hurts if I stand for a long period of time or sit for a long period of time. It hurts quite abit after vacuuming, shoveling snow, lifting certain things. Sometimes it feels either very warm to the touch and other times its cold to the bone. But I think that is the fibro. The pain I have with the fibro is constent. It just never lets up. I don't know where the hernia goes when I lay down.

Thank you for the information.

The hernia goes back to the abdominal cavity when you lie down due to gravity.

It usually consists of the intestines which comes down when you stand or lift something. There is any weak point in the abdominal wall.

Hernia usually does not cause pain except when it goes down you can feel some dragging sensation & discomfort in the area. But it may cause severe pain when it gets obstructed. Then it cant go back to abdomen.

You can take a consultation with a surgeon because surgery is the only option for hernia if it causing symptoms.

If you need further clarifications, I will be happy to explain further.

I understand about the pain part. I guess it is just more of a discomfort but the upper inner thigh is where is seems to swell and hurt. It's where the leg and the torso come together. Do you think this could be from the hernia. The last hernia I had was an inguenal hernia and it was very painful and I looked like I was 9 months pregnant. What can happen if I elect not to have surgery right away?
