I am experiencing intense sporadic pain in the cord to my right testicle. I had a hernia repaired recently (6 months ago) on the same side (right), which was supposed to have solved the problem. My surgeon tells me it is "ghost pain", but his treatment (injecting anti-biotic/steroid above the site) so far have had no effect. Last night small pea-sized lumps appeared on the muscle in the fold of the groin after 8 hours of driving, but this morning I can''t find them. What might be causing this problem?

Optional Information:
Male, Age: 52, Canada

Already Tried:
only what I have stated in the question. One GP claimed the pain was caused by "dead sperm". I took the prescribed aposulfatrim to no effect.

The pain can occur in any situation: while standing; while lying down; and sometimes while I am sitting. If it happens while standing, I can usually get relief by sitting.
The swelling, or pea-sized lumps, were not at the site of the previous hernia, but rather along the cord on the underside of the muscle, right above the scrotal sack.

There is tenderness at the bottom of the hernia-repair scar about an inch to the right and above the base of the penis, but only when you press in. That is not, however, where the cordal pain I am describing, occurs. I should also mention that the hernia repair was done with the use of mesh. The intermittent pain I am experiencing began before the hernia repair was performed but was not isolated as a separate pain at the time.

If this is ghost pain, how do you explain the lumps that appeared?

Thank you for your thoughts, despite the fact that they are not encouraging. What would you consider satisfactory treatment to deal with this pain? It is seriously affecting my quality of life and ability to make a living. I am self-employed.

As the lump is a new development , it should be checked by your surgeon . Treatment
will depend on the finding of your surgeon .
