Sent to Health Experts October 11, 2005 6:13 a.m.

I am a 59 year old female diabetic. My belly button started to burn so I checked and noticed it was wet. I started putting medicine on it but it is not getting any better. tonight it started to bleed a little. I have never heard of such a thing.

It can either be due to a bacterial infection or an Umbilical hernia in which there is a possible intestional tract problem, if no pain is involved then most likely it is bacterial related. I suggest , especially since you are diebetic as well that you contact your physician first thing this morning and go in for a thorough examination and bloodwork. In most cases it is a sign of a bacterial infection and can be treated with antibiotics but it is better to not take any chances. I hope this information will be of help to you. For now if you have some neosporin I suggest putting this on your naval until you can be seen.
