An umbilical hernia is a protrusion (outward bulging) of the abdominal lining, or a portion of abdominal organ(s), through the area around the navel (belly-button)

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: This is not on an infant. I had surgery about 2 years ago where they removed a large tumor from my ovary that grew up into my stomach. They cut me down my stomach around my navel and further. Now I have a knot around my belly button that will fit in the palm of my hand. I was told it was an imbilical hernia. It this more serious for an adult than an infant?

Well there is always a risk of intestinal obstruction or strangulation with hernia.You should consult a surgeon to consider surgical repair.
