Hello, my boyfriend has a Hernia hiatus and he had very painful indigestion last night. Today he has bad pain in the oesophagus when he eats anything. Is there anything we can do to relieve the pain except using the usuall indigestion 'over the counter' medicines? Does he need to see a doctor right now, or can he see his GP tomorrow? Thank you.

Optional Information:
Male, Age: 35, United Kingdom

Already Tried:
We have Rennie pastils and Helicid (omeprazolum 20mg) pill taken once a day, but not for last few months. Had one pill again last night during indigestion and many acid lowering pastills since.

Is the pain is not severe and is tolerable, then it would be appropriate to wait till tomorrow to see the GP. For now he should try to stay in upright position and keep head end elevated while lying down or sleeping. For stomach pain, he may take antacids like Ranitidine, Famotidine or Magnesium Hydroxide. Avoid spicy foods or food items that make the pain worse.
If the pain gets severe or he has associated symptoms like vomiting, shortness of breath, he should be taken to the ER.

Reply to Dr A Gupta's Post: Thank you. Is there anything that would help to heal or relive pain in burned oesophagus?

That would be Magnesium hydroxide, which will neutralize the acid already present in the stomach. Also acetaminophen would be helpful for the pain.
