Apply hypoallergenic skin lubricants e.g. vaseline or mineral oil.
Decrease frequency of bathing.
Use mild, unscented, hypoallergenic soap.
Humidify dry indoor environment.
Wear clothing that doesn't irritate your skin e. g. doubly-rinsed cotton or silk, avoid wool, smooth-textured cotton, or synthetic fabrics, add bath oil e.g. Alpha Keri to the rinse cycle of towels and sheets.
Avoid caffeine, alcohol, spices, hot water, and excessive sweating.
Avoid corticosteroids for prolonged periods and topical anesthetics and antihistamines.
Treatments for itchy dry skin include Sarna lotion, oatmeal baths (Aveeno), PrameGel, Zonalon, Burrow's solution, Unna's boot, and tar emulsion.
Sinequan 10 to 25 mg or Atarax 25 to 100 mg at bedtime

If your itching isn't resolved despite doing all of the above, then there may be a systemic cause. In that case, I recommend that you be examined in person by your primary care physician who can order a TSH, bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, creatinine, BUN, CBC, HIV test, and a chest X-ray.
