I recently was penetrated in the anus with a clean new sex toy. However the lube that had been used by the person, had been previously used with other people. My question, can HIV be transmitted by lube that has been contaminated? Can lube even be contaminated? Please let me know as a I am very nervous. Thanks so much!!

Hello and Welcome to Just Answer,

It is very unlikely that the lube was contaminated if it was in a tube and closed up. They really should have washed thier hands really good before touching the lubrication. This is a good practice to get use to. Make sure that you use the right cleaning supplies to use on the toy. Never use a sex toy that has been used by another person. you would be more likely to catch something that way than by the lube. You can go to any shop that sells these toys and they have cleaning supplies for these toys. Lube doesn't cost very much, so I would recommend you get a new unopened tube from now on. It doesn't cost much and I would rather spend a couple of dollars than take the chance of getting something. I hope I have answered your questions. If I haven't, please feel free to ask me anything else.

Thanks,

Your question was : My question, can HIV be transmitted by lube that has been contaminated? Can lube even be contaminated?

The answer is yes it can be and you may have been exposed to HIV. This is a blood borne pathogen and if the previous user had contaminated the container then yes it would be possible to pass on to you. There could also be other STD's possible to transmit. Let me know if you need further assistance on this.
