Through the work of the committee in this triennium we have concluded that the Episcopal Church response to the HIV crisis has lost impetus because of a perception that the crisis has become a "chronic disease." That this is not the case is borne out by the fact that in 2005 there were more than a million people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States (statistics from Province Nine and Haiti are not available) and more than 40 million worldwide
