I called my doctor within 24 hours of esposure and she started me on a PEP program with trizivir (abacavir 300mg, lamivudine 150mg, and zidovudine 300mg)Are these drugs affective in fighting infection if I was infected? If presemen was transfered does it have higher or lower concentration of the virus? I also took a PCR/RNA test at 11 days and am waiting for results. When the results come back would it be warrent to stop the PEP medication?

my doctor didnt give any specifics, she just said the medication had to be taken twice a day; once in the evening and once in the morning. She didnt indicate with or without food. Are you familiar with the noted medications? Being that my exposure was very low risk do you think that IF i had come into contact with the virus that the PEP medication killed it yet? In addition, you didnt answer what the PCR/RNA test would mean.

I tested negative via a PCR test drawn on the 11th day after exposure. So with that what are my chances of being negative considering the type of exposure noted? I really would like to stop taking the pep medications as it is severely decreasing my apetite and giving me headaches, as well as impacting my sleep pattern. My doctor did tell me I needed to take an antibody test in one month. What is the acuracy of the PCR testing? Will it more than likley pick it up if I have the virus in my body somewhere?

So was a negative PCR/Viral load test a good sign? Does it basically say that there is no infection present and I am just completing the nPEP program because it is just protocol?
