Is it normal to cough up yellow-greenish phelgm

Sent to Health Experts March 16 05:03 AM

My nose is stuff up I can barely breath. I feel really congested in my head area and my thorat is hurting really bad I went to the Doctor 3/15 he said it is a URI (cold) but I'm telling him that I'm coughing up yellow-greenish phelgm and it is also presents when I blow my nose. He said it would return to normal on it's on. Is that true? I'm confuse I thought the color of the phelgm is an indication of an infection. Am I correct? I thought I need some antibiotics or something. Optional Information: FemaleAlready Tried: tylenol cough and sore throat,Robitussin cough and cold,Benadryl-D, allergy and sinus

Yes yellow or green is a color of infection and you honestly should call them and insist on antibiotics and let them know that everything you have tried is not working. Upper Respiratory Infections are exactly that, an infection and for most viral infections you can only treat the symptoms but when you cannot relieve them with OTC products then it is best to treat with antibiotics. I would highly recomment that you call them today and insist that they call in a round of antibiotics for you.

They mostly use Amoxicillin or Keflex to treat infections such as this and if you are not allergic to these types of medications they should be fine. If they are 500 mg then they need to be taken twice daily but usually for 10 days so that may not be enough to completely clear up the infection but they will help although I would phone your physician and ask them to call in a prescription so you can continue for the full 10 day period as they should not have a problem with calling in antibiotics for you as they are not a narcotic.
