Sent to Health Experts March 26 12:41 AM

I took a fall over a wood barricade that we keep the dog out of areas of the house with. When I fell, my shin scraped aross the top of the board and I fell to the floor. It was extremely painful, but my leg did not bleed and the skin was barely broken on my shin.

This wound has not stopped being painful since!! This happened on the 5th of March and today still feels like I just fell today. It had a large scab that developed (about a weeks time), but I soon noticed that it seemed to be floating ontop of liquid. I pushed down on it and Puss spewed out the sides of the wound. Anyway, I removed the scab and cleaned the wound w/Peroxide for several days, and I am concerned about this not healing and the pain has not gone away. I am wondering if I should see a doctor, or am I right to continue rinsing the wound 3-times a day, applying antiseptic iodine and then covering it with a bandage again. I am also continuing to apply ice packs to it because it seems to help with the pain. Should I see a doctor for this? This wound is pretty deep and the infection worries me.

Since it's been since the 5th, which is now 20 days, I would see your doctor. To make sure there is no deep infection in the wound, plus to make sure there is no type of fracture or bone chip and no damage to the tendons. It does take time heal, but since it feels no better than the first day, this is much too long. In the mean time, use moist heat vs the ice pack (unless the ice pack helps and feels better for you) ibuprofen for pain and any inflammation, you can take up to 600mg. But I would still keep cleaning it, but still get an evaluation just to rule out of any the above.

Reply to Lindie's Post: I am still a little confused about the products and procedures I'm doing; as a nurse, how would this wound possibly be handled, i.e. rinsing, cleaning, iodine antiseptic, covering, etc. Is this a help or hindrance to my wound? How would it be handled by medical practices?

First let me say I am to a disadvantage because I can't see it. I don't know if you have any medical conditions that may prevent you from wounds healing properly. So with that said, I can only go by the information given. As far as the wound. If it is deep as you say, it's possible it may be infected underneath, which is why you are still getting the pus. Keeping it clean is what you are doing and using the correct medication that is available to you. Now as far as keeping it covered.. this can help keep the wound with moister etc.. which air drying is best. But if there is an infection deep down, then it needs to get cleaned out with sterile fluid etc.. If that would entail opening the wound and/or antibiotics to help your body fight this infection off.

Hope this helps Hun.
