I don't know if these two things are related but, Friday my husband was sitting in the recliner and got a charlie horse in the back of his leg, which proceeded to go up into his arm and head, on the left side. It hurt so bad it took him right down to the floor. he ask me to rub it, but I told him he is to stand on his tippy toes. Then Sunday at breakfast, on the right side of his face, in front of his ear, it started swelling down into the side of his neck. It did that a couple of times yesterday and he said it was very painful. This morning he says it is just like a hard lump and his balance seems to be a little off. Any suggestions?

Everytime he eats, it tends to swell more. He called me at his morning break and he tried to eat a sandwich, and it started to swell again. But after the swelling goes down, it is leaving a hard bump.

These symptoms may or not be related. One scenario under which the symptoms could be related would be a virus causing some sort of generalized nerve inflammation.

The neck swelling might be anything from TMJ (a Jaw nerve problem) to a tooth abscess -- with a few other possibilities in between.

I recommend that your husband see a Doctor for a general exam -- including routine blood work. This should indicate whether there is an acute (short-term) infection present. If no infection is found, I recommend that your husband ask for a referral to a neurologist.

Let me know if you need more input. If not, thanks for the opportunity to assist you... Please honor my efforts by Clicking the green 'Accept' button (located within this post -- above-right). Adding a bonus -- should you wish to do so -- would be warmly welcomed.

Good Luck!
