Ring worm is a fungal infection of the skin. It is not
actually caused by a worm, but often the infection forms a ring shaped
lesion, thus leading to its name. You man indeed have a different
infection in the gi tract that could be causing your symptoms.
the doc should send a sample of your stool for WBC (white blood cell
count), culture, ova & parasite, and if you've been hospitalized or
on antibiotics recently then you should be tested for clostridium
difficile toxin. If these are negative then you should seek
evaluation by a gastroenterologist for more specific diseases., such as
inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome,
crohn's disease, diabetic diarrhea (if you are diabetic!), or the
effect of medicines. Do you take any meds by prescription, or do
you eat a lot of foods such as cookies and the like that are labeled
low fat or low carb? These use other oils and artificial
sweeteners that can cause your symptoms.
