Staphylococcus is a bacteria that is around us all the time. It is on the skin and in the noses of most of us. You wouldn't find it in the dirt. It normally is no problem, but when there is a cut on the skin or a bite like your som may have actually had, the bacteria can get in and cause an infection. If he had a bite and scratched it, the infection could have come from under the fingernails. Hoepfully his infection will clear up in a few days, like most. But be sure to use the antibiotics and the ointment for however liong the doc said, otherwise the infection will come back in a stronger form. I see in a different one of your posts that this is MRSA. This means that the staph he has is the type that is resistant to methicillin, an antibiotic that used to be successful in treating it.
