I am on the birth control pill but find that I am

I am on the birth control pill but find that I am spotting between periods, and the spotting does not stop until I get my period. The spotting is brown and not red and I have heard that if it is brown, its coming from my cervix and not my uterus, is this correct and should I be concerned?

I have been on the pill for about a year and a half now. I had to have my Rx switched a few times in that period since I kept having break through bleeding. I never forget a pill. Some months its fine, but more often than not I spot, until I get my period.
