group b strep

Sent to Health Experts June 28 01:24 PM

My gynecologist's office just called me and reported that a culture taken at her office detected a yeast infection and an indication of Group B Strept. She is prescribing tarizol for the yeast infection and is not treating the group b strep? Will the strep infection go away on its own or should I be treated for it. Thank you.

I am 55 and wwas given a complete hystrectomy 5 years ago for uterine cancer.

Margaret I,

Typically group B strep is treated with penicillin or other common antibiotics. Treatment can vary according to the kind of infection with group B strep you have so you should ask your doctor as far as why treatment is not being done.
