I am a 20/m and I have small red bumps in one ...

Sent to Health Experts June 29, 2006 7:29 a.m.

I am a 20/m and I have small red bumps in one section of my groin area. The last time I had sex was over 3 months ago so I had a herpes blood test done. I ordered it from privatemdlabs.com(which uses LabCorp) and had the HSV Types 1 and 2-Specific Ab, IgG test done. The results for both type 1 and 2 came back negative. In the past I swear I have had cold sores but I guess they could of been canker sores. I'm not really sure, being the test came back negative for type 1 i'm not sure if I am mistaken or if the test is inaccurate. I have not noticed any discharge or bumps on my penis. At one time it did itch but I dont notice it anymore to be itchy.   If I try and scratch one off, (they are pretty small, pimple size) it simply bleeds, no weird color fluid or anything comes out.

Could the herpes test be inaccurate? Is this probably an STD and what if not herpes? What else could cause this? Thanks!

This sounds more related to a rash or heat rash then it does an STD. Labcorp is very accurate so I would have to say most likely the test results are accurate, even most all doctors offices use them as well. The other thing it could be is an allergic reaction. or jock itch, so the best thing you can do is to get some jock itch cream and use this to see if this helps to clear up the breakout as from what you are saying this sounds more related to that instead of an STD. I would also recommend not scratching them off as this can cause infection so use the cream and see if it is effective as most likely it will be.

I have had the bumps for several months now. Constantly coming and going but there most of the time. None of the area is really red just the bumps. I looked up pictures of jock itch and it doesn't look the same but you know the internet. I also had a small rash/bump the size of 1/2 a dime on my right butt cheek which did itch a lot and went away after a while. I noticed the same type of thing on my inner elbow. And then a 3rd one half way up the arm a few weeks after that. I noticed they did itch. Could this be related in any way.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

Yes it could be that you have excema as well, although it is more rare in the genital area. But if the area in on the groin area this is possible if it does not relate to jock itch in that area and excema causing the other areas to break out like this. The only other thing it could be is an allergic reaction to something you are around alot as it usually comes and goes and is not continual. You may want to be seen by a Dermatologist as they specialize in disorders of the skin. In the meantime I would try some of the joch itch cream as it will not hurt you, and also try to keep your groin area as sweat free and dry as possible.
