What you describe sounds like it could be Impetigo which is a skin infection that is easily spread. It does require antibiotics to treat it so he should be seen by your family doctor or pediatrician for treatment.

Does it grow bigger once the sores open up? His has. We also have 3 other children who have shown no signs of it.

Yes, they can. Younger children are more susceptable than older children to the infection. The sores will usually drain, and crust. It is helpful to keep them open to air to promote drying yet limit contact with the sores and the drainage to prevent spreading. Impetigo is a type of staph infection.
