Hi Dianna,

Based on the information that you have provided in your question I am going to suggest that you probably have a inflamed cyst or carbuncle.

Each of these would result in a hard sore spot. The soreness would be the result of infection. Depending on how large the one you have is and the amount of infection it contains can also account for the swelling.

I would suggest that you get in to see your doctor as soon as possible. In addition to prescribing antibiotics for the infection, ther are times that your doctor will lance the cyst or carbuncle to clean it out and to prevent it from forming again.

These are not the product of an STD and are common in many people. The area that they appear in is also wide and varied. I have seen them on the torso, legs, and armpits to mention a few!

Hello Again:

If you prefer to treat this at home before going to the doctor you can apply warm compresses to the area that will enable the infection to surface. You can also apply a drawing salve to this. You can purchase this at any discount drug store or discount store such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.

You may have to puncture the cyst after it has come to a head with a pin or needle. You will want to make sure that the item you use it clean and sterile and you will want to cleanse the area prior to piercing the top of it with alcohol.

One of the problem with doing this at home is that if the little sac that holds the infectious matter isn't removed the problem will be recurrent. This sac is what your doctor will be able to remove.

If this information has been helpful, then please do ACCEPT. Let me know if I can help you further.
