Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

CHEMISTRY PANEL is a group of blood tests that checks electrolytes, kidney function, liver function, acid/base balance, and diabetes. It is also known as a COMPREHENSIVE METABOLIC PANEL There is SO MUCH information on these tests, so I am going to cheat here and give you a link to a site that tell all about each one of them. On this site, if you click on each individual blood test, it will give a more in-depth explanation of the test as well as the normal ranges.

CORONARY RISK PANEL includes Total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, blood glucose and hematocrit.

PSA stand for Prostate-Specific Antigen and is used as a marker to detect prostate disorders. High PSA levels can indicate prostate cancer or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) which is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate. High level can also indicate an inflammation of the prostate. At your age of 72, you should be having your PSA checked yearly.

HEMOGRAM is a measurement of red and white blood cell counts. High white blood cell count can indicate an infection in the body. Low red blood cell counts can diagnose bleeding disorders or anemia.

PLATELETS are usually measure along with the above hemogram (blood cell count.) Platelets are the cells in the blood that are responsible for helping the blood clot. Low platelet counts are an indication of bleeding somewhere in the body or other various disorders such as autoimmune disease, infections, bone marrow disease, etc...

MPV stands for Mean Platelet Volume. It is a measurement of the average size of the platelets.
