Hello,

The full form of Dormant TB is Dormant Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis is caused by the organism Mycobacterium Tuberculosis and mainly infects the lungs of the infected person. It can be in the active or dormant form.

In the active form it is expelled in the sputum (cough) and the saliva of the person and is very infective.

In the dormant form, it is present in white blood cells lining the walls of the lungs or in pockets of pus (called 'tubercles') inside th elungs. As long as the infected persons immune system is strong, the bacteria can stay in the dormant form for years and years. Many persons carry the bacteria in their lungs without showing any symptoms at all.

But when the persons immune system collapses or is down for any cause, the tubercles can burst and the infection becomes active again.

You can see more about Tuberculosis, how it spreads and of the dormant form here:

Your friends doctor is quite right in ssaying that you cannot catch TB from him, but this is true only as long as it is in the dormant form.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
