Lymph Nodes

Sent to Health Experts July 24 2006 at 1:07 PM

My lymph nodes are swollen under both arms (pits), on the lower portion of both nipples (painful), and possibly one on my thigh. I had a headache and fever for a couple days. Is this an infection from a bug bite or possibly some allergic reaction?

Swollen lymph nodes usually indicate a virus or infection somewhere. What kind of bug bit you? Sometimes, they can cause allergic reactions, but that would be itching and hives type symptoms.

I would see your doctor if this doesn't resolve in a few days. If you have already had these symptoms for a few days, I'd try to get in sooner.

I'm not sure what kind of bug bit me, but I was also bitten by plenty of mesquitos. I went to the doctor yesterday and he has no idea what it is... He said that it looks like a skin irritation (not lymph nodes), but the symetry of it worries him. It is in the same exact place under both armpits and under both nipples. He said standard procedure is to take an antibiotic (amoxicillin) for 7-10 days and see if it goes away. If not, then blood test and possible biopsy of the lumps. I do feel better, so hopefully the amoxiccillin works.
