I was recently diagnosed with a strep b vaginal infection. What causes this type of infection? My symptoms were primarily itching and a dull ache. Prior to diagnosis I was given ampicillian. Currently I am on a vaginal suppository (cleocin). I am still having difficulties. Does this sound like the correct way to treat this infection? Any advice? Thanks for your help!

Yes this is the normal procedure but due to the fact you are still having problems another round of antibiotics sounds warranted and I would make it a point to ask them for another round of antibiotics, my choice is always Cipro as it is one of the strongest antibiotics that can be prescribed. The strep B infection can be a nasty infection to overcome and you do not want it to get worse then it is like going back to square one, so call them and ask if they cannot provide another round of antibiotics due to the fact you are still having difficulties.
