Yesterday after dinner I noticed a pain in my underarm. I felt a lump in my armpit and it was painful to touch. Should I be concerned about this, or should I give it a couple of days?

Hello,

A painful lump in the underarm usually means that you have an infection somewhere in the upper body - teeth, gums, tonsils, neck, upper chest or arm.

Please take a pain killer like tylenol twice daily after food fro 3 days. If the lump does not decrease in size or remains as it is , please see a doctor.

I hope this helps.

If it is an infection, will the tylenol treat it, or will i need to treat it with something different?

hello,

If it is a mild infection, the tylenol will cause the inflammation will go down and your natural body immunity should be able to control the infection.

If the infection is somewhat more serious, the tylenol alone will not be able to help. You will notice the lump getting more painful or larger. You will need to take an antibiotic like ampicillin (500mg thrice daily for 5 days) or cephalexin (500 mg thrice daily fro 5 dyas). Both are prescription drugs and you will need to see a doctor about it.

I hope this helps.
