I am a 23 year old woman, healthy, fit and rarely sick. For almost two weeks, I have been experiencing a low fever and low energy. I also noticed, last week, that the hymeneal tissue outside of my vaginal opening has a "tag" that was torn and is swollen. I went to my gynecologist and she didn't notice anything unusual except some redness around the area. But I received my lab results from my visit with her and one test came back positive for Group B Strep. I was prescribed Amoxicillan antibiotics to take for one week. What is GBS, should I be concerned about it turning into something serious, will it cause problems in the future, is it contagious, and how do I treat the small tear near my vaginal opening? - Thank you.
