Pseudofolliculitis Barbae
Sent to Health Experts August 13 09:51 AM

Hi, my name is Charles and I've have been suffering with pseudofolluculitis barbae for years. My problem got worst, because every job I've had in the past required me to have a close shave. I grew a beard since hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast. I noticed that the hairs grow out fine but underneath you can see where I've had extrafollicular and transfollicular penetration. In my cheek area espically the penetration has left these unsitely deep pores, or holes where the hair use to curl back into my skin. Are there some treatment options to help fill in these marks.

There are dermatological treatments available but most often the pores are so deep that the scaring will take a Plastic Surgeon to assist in treatment of the marks or potting.

I suggest you contact the following for great info to further assist you on this as they can provide person's within your area to help.

Pseudofolluculitis Barbae Suffers of America, Inc.

Port Arthur, TX 77643

There are special scrubs and such that one can use but then this also requires the removal of the facial hair to help. Cleaning of the pores will better help in infection occurring as well.

The only topical cream that I find listed on any search for this is an ingredient from a patient themselves with the ingredients as benzoyl peroxide, camphor oil and aloe vera.

I would suggest checking with a plastic surgeon or your primary to better assist in any current or fully up to date methods to prevent this from occurring. It is just part of the condition and I know it can cause scaring and pitting that may be a little unsightly.

If I may be of any further assistance please reply and I will be glad to respond back.
