Iam a 53 white male who has had a long term immune/joint problem that began right after I exited the US Army in 1973. For the past 6 years I have been in a wheelchair following a r hip disariculation amputation in 1980. Now my question. For the past few days I have had a problem that began in what I believe is my tendons in my upper left leg. At the outset, ROM of my knee was decreased so I cannot straighten out my leg when transferring. The pain has increased and now involves my entire outer leg from mid thigh to mid calf. Also the pain has increased in my knee substantially and there is swelling in the entire involved area. Is this a common type problem for wheelchair bound people? What should I do besides resting it and ranging my knee when it can tolerate it?

Hello

Sounds to me like you might have an infection in the tissues of your knee, called cellulitis. It could also be that your nerves are being pinched from the inflammation. IS there anyway you could have dislocated your hip or knee unknowingly? In any case, I suggest you get in today to have it evaluated. You may need a course of antibiotics, or something else. Only further testing will be able to find the cause.

Please keep me posted. I'm interested in finding out what it is!
