I have severe pain in my lower right abdomen. My family doctor sent me to a gyno, she sent my to a urologist. Both the gyno and urologist say there is nothing there to cause the pain. The pain is not constant, but when the sharp pains happen I double over. I have had numerous test. I can't have a physical relation with my fiance since that causes the pain to be more severe.

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 47

Already Tried:
All the test can't remember all the names. I want to know what is causing it, not take medicine to numb it.

Reply to Pamela's Post: I really haven't kept track of the frequency of diarrhea. I have it at least twice a month and usually last one day at the most two. I have not seen a gastroenterologist. As I started with my family doctor and he referred me to the gyno and etc. The first bladder infection took several repeats of antibiotics and so has the last one. I am still on the antibiotics. The infections have been pretty much back to back since January.

It sounds as though the chronic bladder infections could certainly be causing your pain. The bladder spasms which can cause significant discomfort.

I'm sure that you discussed the frequent bladder infections with the urologist when you saw him. Since the antibiotics have not been very effective, you may need to have your urine cultured for MRSA. (Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus).

Sometimes when an infection is difficult to clear, it can be due to being MRSA positive and special antibiotics need to be prescribed.

Recurrent, frequent bladder infections may be due in part to repeatedly wiping from back to front after using the bathroom.

Doing this can contaminate the urethra with bacteria from stool causing infection. Another cause is bacteria entering the urethra during foreplay. Make sure that after sexual contact that you urinate afterwards to clear the urethra of any bacteria that may have entered.

I think that you need to re-visit the urologist and discuss your repeated bladder infections with him and getting a urine culture done. It sounds like your gynecologist has done the evaluation for possible ovarian cyst, or uterine problems. If your bowels are not a problem, then I really think your bladder infections may very well be at the root of the pain.

Repeated bladder infections have the potential to cause kidney infections so it is important that you are treated with the correct antibiotics.

Reply to Pamela's Post: My urine has been cultured. I have been on cipro(sp?) twice. I am currently taking Bactrim and Urised. I wipe side to side as I have some cyst that is on the base of my spine which has an opening close to my rectum and it gets infected if I wipe front to back. I am not sure what the next step will be with the doctors, but I am getting tired and broke from all the test. Unfortunately, your answer is what I have already been told and tried. I never answered your question about surgery. I had a blood clot last year and required a greenfield filter. The doctor went in on the right lower side to insert the filter. I also had vulva cancer, but even though it was classified as vulva cancer because of the size, the path reports showed only precancer cells.

Julie,

Thanks for getting back to me. That was quite a bit of new information! You have quite a complicated health history.

You had mentioned previously that the doctors have examined you thoroughly and indicated that there is really nothing on the right side. Of course there is the appendix, you may be having pain from diverticulitis of the intestine or some other inflammatory process of the gut.

I think that the best thing that I can suggest is that because of your past medical history, that you may need to go to a clinic such as the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin, or one of the three Mayo Clinics around the country.

They have the experience and the capability to do a complete work-up with all of the appropriate specialties and have world wide expertise in a variety of disease process'.

I don't know where you live or how convenient this would be for you, but you have been so miserable for such a long period of time and your physician's are not giving you the answers that you need to resolve your pain, it may well be worth your time.

I know that you must realize that it would be impossible for me to provide you with a diagnosis over the internet, but what I can do is to hopefully point you in the right direction.

I truly hope that you can find the answers with the help of one of these clinic groups.
