I have a six year old daughter who has had swollen lymph nodes behind her right ear, along the right side of her neck, and along the back of her head along her hairline, for nearly three weeks. I took her to the doctor 2 weeks ago because of this. In addition, she had a raised circular "sore" on the crown of her head. She was diagnosed with seborrhea and the swollen glands, the doctor indicated, were a side-effect of the condition. Five days later, I had her back to the doctor because the sore was oozing - yellow and crusty. They prescribed a 3-day treatment with topical anti-bacterial cream, and a 10-day course of an oral antibiotic for the obvious infection. We are on day 8 of the antibiotic, and while the infection has cleared up, the raised sore on her head (1 1/2 in diameter, 1/3 of an inch raised, red and scaly, and obvious because of the protrusion of it through her hair) is still going strong. In addition, her glands are more swollen than ever. The two behind her ear have become "one." The glands along her hair line (occipital, I believe) are both swollen now, when it was initially only the glands on the same side of her head as the sore, that were involved. I'm very frustrated. I have contacted the pediatrician requesting a dermotological referral, and she has asked that I continue to course of treatment. My daughter certainly doesn't act sick....but the "absess" on her head, and the continual and increased swelling of her lymph nodes concerns me. No blood work, cultures of the sore, have been conducted. The diagnosis has been based on two observations of the sore and lymph glands.
