It is really impossible to diagnose a red eye without it being seen. I suspect that you may have either a low grade infection or more likely a case of allergic conjuctivitis. The other possibility is that you could have dry eyes - not enough tear production - and this can cause the same symptoms.
You should see your physician or eye professional for an examination.
