Gynocological question

I have never had a yeast infection, so I am not sure if this is what I have. Symptoms are a mild itch, some soreness (though not during urination) and a thick discharge. What worries me is that some of the discharge has red in it- possibly blood? My clitoris has felt a little sore for about a week now, but the discharge didn't start until yesterday.

I am 24, just had my yearly pap smear which came back normal, and am in a monogamous relationship. My period will start in about a week, and I just started taking a different brand of birth control this month (switched from Ortho tricyclen to Tri Sprintec). We also use condoms, but those do not contain a spermicide (while I've used that brand before without any problems, I've never used this specific style until this week). Yesterday I started taking monostat 3 which seems to have helped a lot with the itch, and I didn't see any red discharge this morning. Although I feel better this morning, I was just curious as to if this really did sound like a yeast infection?

Thank you for your help!

Hello

In women, signs and symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are a white discharge that typically itches and irritates the vagina and surrounding outer tissues. On occasion there may be pain with sexual intercourse .

Since the symptoms are responding to miconazole which is anti fungal gives an indirect evidence that this is a yeast infection.
