Sent to Health Experts October 08, 2006 10:19 p.m.

I am experiencing redness and bumps in a small patch of skin on my pelvic area. Also, my lymph nodes in my groin are swollen. Initially it looked like ingrown hairs, but now the patch is infected and pussing a little, although not painful. The patch feels irritated like an infection, but does not hurt like open sores. I have had the same sexual partner for the last 2 years, and we are both faithful. Is this herpes or a skin infection?

Hi tc,

This DEFINITELY sounds like a skin infection ('Folliculitis'), and NOT herpes nor any other STD. Here's a public web-link on Folliculitis:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/folliculitis/DS00512

Most cases of Folliculitis require treatment w/ prescription antibiotics, so please see your MD to get an RX of antibiotics...should heal quickly w/ the right abx.

Hope this helps!
