Thanks for the information.

The first thing you need to stop doing is douching. There has been NO proof that douching helps with ANYTHING, and actually can cause, and lead to a worsening of, vaginal infections.

Given the bad odor, you likely have an infection - possibly Bacterial Vaginosis (or BV). This is quite common and can be easily taken care of by a prescription medication. The spotting may be related to the infection, or could be caused by something else, such as a hormone imbalance. You need to be seen by your doctor to get checked out, and ideally receive a prescription to help with the infection.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Sincerely,
Emily

Reply to HealthGuru aka Emily's Post: I have never used a douche until yesterday. Bacterial Vaginosis states discharge is usually white or gray, mine is brown. Also that it may have a strong fish like odor, mine is a very strong rotten foul smell that is very noticeable to anyone near me. I shower daily and have very good hygiene habits but can not clear up or cover this smell.

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy)-

Typically the discharge with BV is white or grey, but because you are having spotting as well, the color of the blood would cover the white or grey discharge. However, given that your odor isn't fishy smelling, it is possible that you have a different sort of infection (although BV is still most likely) - possibilities include Chlymadia, Trichomoniasis, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and Endometriosis (although there is usually pain associated with these last two conditions).

It's good that you only used the douche once. Definitely avoid this in the future (although I completely understand why you decided to use it). Rest assured that your symptoms have nothing to do with hygiene, so don't feel like this is caused by anything you did/didn't do.

Bottom line: You need to make a doctors appointment today, and ideally be seen today if possible.

Sincerely,
Emily
