I have had very strong pain in abdomen and renal pain AFTER urination. Any ideas on what could be causing it? I have recurring kidney stones, but otherwise am healthy.

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy)

GLad to help. The Abdominal pain together with the renal pain after urination, could be due to a urinary tract infection that might have spread to your bladder.

ALthough It usually does not present this way, it could happen. This pain AFTER urination and abdominal pain has been seen in mild bladder infections. Sometimes when you have a history of kidney stones a lot of the time ,this stones cause urine to back up all the way to your kidney and sometimes infect the kidney mildly causing this type of pain.

Best thing for you would be to pay a visit to your Doctor, or better yet if you have a urologist (who specializes in this) and he will investigate further on, and IF you have a mild infection might give you antibiotics for it, if needed.

In the meanwhile dont hold your urine for long periods of time, go right away when you have the urges and keep drinking plenty of water, and I mean PLENTY OF WATER, being well hydrated helps prevent KIdney stones and saves you from experiencing a lot of pain.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions or not sure about somethings feel free to message me back,

Best Wishes

DR.Mike

Reply to Doctor Mike's Post: I do not have infection of any type right now, but still have the pain after urination. I get tested for infection every couple of months along with xrays of my kidneys for stones. I have the testing done for kidney reflux, negative; and checked for gout, also negative. Just about any test that has to do with kidneys, I have had it, most within the past year. Renal mag, numerous IVP's, CT scans, etc.
Any other suggestions other than infection? I am actually fasting right now for testing later this morning. Will post results later.
thanks again.
