A normal level for a male is 12-300 ng/ml. Ferritin levels can be increased if you have inflammation, liver disease, and some types of cancer, and if you have had multiple transfusions. It can also be high if you have hemochromatosis, which is a genetic disease in which too much iron is absorbed. Other causes can include Hodgkin's disease, leukemia, infection, a variety of inflammatory conditions, or a diet that contain too much iron. Your doctor should do further testing, to determine what the exact cause may be.
