For the past several weeks, every time I lift weights, my ears feel like I am going up in an airplane, my hearing becomes muted, and I cannot "pop" them. Eventually it goes away. However, I have also noticed lately that my ears are "popping" several times a day; I only notice this after I swallow or yawn and my hearing is 50 times better and feels like pressure has lifted. What is the problem? Should I see someone for this?

Your description of the lifting weights alone might have pointed to a circulation problem. Since you added the other information I am rather confident in saying it is a blocked Eustachian tube. This could mean you have an inner ear infection if it has bee blocked very long.

The Eustation(usually spelled as before but sometimes this way) tube runs from the inner ear to the throat. It can become blocked with the same materials that would block your sinuses or even when you are simply having a high amount of sinus drainage. Children get infections of the inner ear this way because they have shorter Eustachian tubes than adults..also slightly different in the twisting of the tube between the throat and ear.

If you have not yet developed any pain or fever it is possible you simply need decongestants and a high fluid intake to clear this up. Stay away from milk products for awhile since they can cause many people to have higher mucous production. If you suffer from allergies this time of year, add an antihistamine to the decongestant. Taken regularly for a few days this should clear your problem up. Any sign of pain, fever or INTENSE pressure should be examined by a physician since you most likely have an infection if this happens. It is possible to have an ear drum rupture from the pressure!!
