My mom woke up in the middle of the night, and felt as if there was a lot of wax in her ear. She put a Q-Tip in her ear, and thought it was yellow (she has macular degeneration & can't see colors). Upon rising later, she noticed some blood coming from her ear while she was washing, and I noticed a bit on her pillow. She is a heart patient, and has had trouble hearing in the past few months. How serious is this - doctor serious or ER/911 serious?

Hello

This can be due to inflammation or an infection or it can be due to skin irritations in the ear canal.Ear wax accounts for most ear discharge. This can cause serious changes. She needs to be examined to see if there is any serious infection or inflammation like acute ottitis media or acute otorrhea I advice you to take her to ER.

Hope this helped.
