I had vaginal cryosurgery two days before I had sexual intercourse. We used protection but no one at the gyno told me I couldn't have sex for three weeks after the procedure. I didn't take notice the two days after, but now I'm paranoid and can't tell if I have an odor-discharge. It's not yellow like the websites said, but I feel slightly sore and I'm getting scared. Do I have an infection?

Hi,
The fact that there is no discharge rules out any infection for the time being. The soreness can be due to a mild vaginal inflammation due to irritation of the vagina (before it could heal) due to the intercourse. No need to panic.
  • Take an oral anti-inflammatory like tylenol
  • complete the course of antibiotics you must have been prescribed after cryosurgery
  • keep the vaginal area clean - wash it with water only
  • and keep the vaginal area dry
  • if any local ointment has been prescribed continue using it
  • wear cotton undergarments
  • avoid intercourse
Despite the above treatment still if there is worsening of symptoms then contact your Ob/gynae for a culture and appropriate local and oral antibiotic treatment.
Regards,
Dr. Gupta

Reply to Gaurav Gupta's Post: Thank you for your information. Coincidentally, I called the gyn to ask about this and they told me that I had vaginal strep. So is that why I have a slight odor in my discharge? They're giving me anti-biotics. They told me not to worry, although I didn't mention I had had sex. I thought I had an infection because my vagina feels kind of sore and because I had similar symptoms as the time I had bacterial vaginosis. I'm hoping the medication will clear anything up.
