I read that using a blow dryer on the genital area can help keep dry and avoid yeast infections - I even saw this recommended on a couple pregnancy sites. However I thought that air blown into the vagina can cause an embolism (which I've heard can happen during oral sex). How can this be?

Using a blow dryer on the genital area is okay as long as used correctly as air into the genital region can cause an embolism, but it is very very rare, if you do this use it on the low cool setting only for a few minutes. The best way to avoid yeast infections is to keep the genital area as dry as possible to not allow the yeast to grow and this is one way to help dry the area after a shower. It is not something I would honestly recommend on a regular basis but it has been known to be effective in avoiding re-occuring yeast infections.

Reply to cheryl kauffman's Post: Thanks, but unfortunately, I've been using this blow dryer method for weeks - it seems to help. I do have recurrent yeast infections and am constantly prescribed Gyne lotrimin.

Now that I have this information, I will stop but how will I know if I already caused any damage or have this air embolism? (I don't even know what one is really)

No you would know if you had an embolism and this can be from close direct air blown into the genital region. As long as you do not hold the blow dryer too close and use a low cool setting there is not enough direct force of air to cause an embolism. An embolism is a blockage in an artery usually due to a blood clot and if you had a blocked artery then you would know it right away as this is a serious condition. If this method has been helping you, you can continue to do this just make sure that you do not hold the blow dryer too close and use it on the lowest coolest setting for a few minutes enough to dry the genital area.
