I have a small lump under the skin on the side of my neck. It's hard, and about the size of a pea, slightly posterior to the SCM muscle. I can move it a little bit, and it's not painful to touch. I am a bodyworker, and very familiar with my body. I never noticed this before about a week ago. What is it possible that this could be?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 25

Already Tried:
Applying warmth to area.

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: It is not attached to the skin, the skin "rolls" over it. The skin is intact, it is not noticable by the eye, only by palpating the area. I have no other lumps that I am aware of. Overall I am healthy and active.

Thank you for your reply.

From it's location and descripton it sound like an enlarged lymph node.

These usually enlarge in response to a local infection.

Any skin or scalp symptoms?

Reply to Alexander Irvine's Post: No infections that I'm aware of. One of my colleagues, also a bodywork therapist, also suggested that it was an enlarged lymph node. If this is the case, is there any action that you would recommend? How long do these usually last?

That would depend on the duration and also the prescence of other enlarged glands.

If you have it for more than a month ,especially if it were growing in size, you should let your Dr have a look at it.

Most patients who come to see me can usually expect it to go back to its normal size spontaneously.

Hope this helps.
