Cellulitus questions

Sent to Health Experts December 21, 2007 8:24 p.m.

I recently had cellutius from popping a pimple on my finger. My had swelled up and started working up to my wrist. My doc put me on (2) antibiotics, bactrum and Cefafex? the antibiotics worked and the sweeling went away after 48 hours. However, my finger still has a hard Knot where the pimple was. Is this still the infection? My hand has no more swelling and i feel fine. However, i am concerned that the infection could be lying dormat in this knot. It's still a little red and hard with slight tenderness. Should I get on another round of antibiotics?

thanks
Jim.

This hard knot is probably a remnant from the infection. Infections such as cellulitis can cause fibrosis and this can leave a hard knot in the area. You should not worry about this. It will usually go away in time. Sometimes a knot remains there permanently, this also is nothing to worry about. Just give it time and it will go away, or at least become much smaller than now.
