Why does my boyfriend lose his erection part of the way through sex? It has happened 2 times. We do not have sex that often. I am 36 and he is 26. He says that when he masturbates he doesn't lose his erection! What's going on?

this can be just psychological, this is pretty common in times of stress, or in new relationships. this makes sense with the fact that he is okay with self stim. medical reasons can be simply ruled out with some tests of his hormone levels: testosterone (free and total), prolactin, and DHEA. other possibilities can be blood vessel or nerve related, seen in neuromuscular disorder and htn or diabetes. he should get a complete physical to rule out the above. the fact that hes okay with masturbation doesnt necesarrily rule these out.

Reply to Dr. Bush's Post: We have been together for 2 years-so its not a new relationship. Our relationship struggles, but only due to my lack of self confidence, not him. He is very loving and is always aroused, I am the one who never wants to have sex.

okay that makes it easier and then all the more reason to have him get a thorough check and rule out medical causes.
